5 Uraian Payung Penelitian :
(1) Biologically-inspired Robotics mechanism and its intelligent control
Bidang penelitian ini berupaya memanfaatkan sistem biologi sebagai inspirasi mencari mekanisme baru dalam bidang robotika untuk keperluan rekayasa praktis untuk memecahkan masalah nyata yang dihadapi industri mau pun masyarakat secara umum. Teknik-teknik kendali cerdas akan dikembangkan agar mekanisme tersebut dapat berfungsi seperti yang kita inginkan.
Topik-topik riset, yang bisa diturunkan dari bidang penelitian tersebut antara lain:
- Aktuator dan mekanisme yang terinspirasi dari sistem biologi
- Teknologi pengenalan: wicara, citra, sistem listrik, sistem mekanik dan implikasinya pada pengenalan peristiwa dan konteks kejadian (event and context recognition)
- Teknologi sistem embedded untuk sistem robotika dan otomasi
(2) Large-scale automation and intelligent systems
Penelitian ini berupaya memecahkan persoalan sistem global sebagai upaya manusia untuk merencanakan masa depannya, pengembangan sistem besar untuk strategi bisnis dan kerjasama antar entitas yang bersenergi, dan untuk mengusulkan berbagai altenatif pemecahan bagi kemungkinan adanya bencana dan ancaman bagi kelangsungan hidup manusia, terutama aspek manajemen pengetahuan (knowledge management) dan otomatisasi pengambilan keputusan.
6 Uraian singkat penelitian-penelitian yang telah/sedang dilakukan
(1) Biologically-inspired Robotics mechanism and its intelligent control
Topik yang sedang dan akan diteliti, antara lain:
- Berbagai robot pencari korban tsunami yang diilhami dari serangga dan belalai gajah, termasuk sensor multi modalnya (pencarian korban dengan melacak dan mengenali suara danwarna kulit) (Proyek Akhir)
- Perangkat lunak perancangan Autonomous mobile robot (Proyek Akhir)
- Benchmark control problems: magnetic levitation, ball and beam, inverted pendulum (Proyek Akhir)
- Pengembangan modul ajar instrumentasi dan kendali berbasis "computer interactive and assisted learning" dengan pendekatan realistis terhadap kebutuhan industri (Hibah Pekerti, UNESA - PENS ITS)
(2) Large-scale automation and intelligent systems

- Sistem distribusi dan transaksi SPBU menggunakan jaringan pribadi aman (virtual private networks) (Dana DP2M Dikti)
- Palm oil crystallization process control using adaptive neuro fuzzy
- Sistem navigasi dan komunikasi kapal di bawah 30 GT (Kerjasama dengan Departemen Kelautan dan Perikanan RI)
- Global Disaster Management, terutama dari aspek penyajian pengetahuan (knowledge representation) dan teknik-teknik penalaran (reasoning techniques) untuk otomasi perencanaan dan migitasi bencana (Kerjasama dengan Keio Univ., NICT, Softcomputing Research Group, Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Research Group)
